VISUAL DESIGN

Three years that will change your life.
Practice, theory, and more practice is the principle behind Raffles Milano’s three-year courses, a training program that structures the mind, provides a solid technical foundation, and encourages students to broaden their horizons.

Three years that will change your life.

The Visual Design and Graphic Area at Raffles Milano unites visual culture, design thinking, and communication strategy. Whether students choose Visual & Graphic Design or Communication Design and Management, they share a common foundation of essential design studies and critical tools. This integrated approach reflects the contemporary creative industries, where visual identity, branding, and storytelling work hand in hand.

Visual area

Visual design is the design of everything made to be seen. It gives form to how organisations, brands, and cultures present themselves to the world. From brand identities and editorial design to digital experiences and visual storytelling, it is a discipline defined by the relationships between type, image, space, and meaning — and by the contexts, historical and technological, in which it operates.

At Raffles Milano, students work across the full range of visual practice — from editorial and brand design to screen design, motion graphics, and AI-generated imagery — building technical competence and a strong visual sensibility through projects that grow progressively more complex and autonomous. Faculty are practising professionals working across editorial design, visual identity, motion, and digital communication. The programme is based in Milan, with direct access to the publishers, studios, and agencies students are preparing to work with.

Paths

The Visual Area at Raffles Milano is built around Visual & Graphic Design, a three-year programme that provides students with a solid foundation in visual language, typography, brand design, editorial design, and digital communication. Through practical projects and design research, students learn to create clear, engaging, and impactful visual work.

As they progress through the programme, students may continue to deepen their Visual & Graphic Design pathway or choose to complement their studies with the Communication Design and Management specialisation. This option integrates the core Visual & Graphic Design curriculum with targeted contents in branding, communication strategy, project management, and digital marketing, progressively introduced from the end of the first year. Through projects, workshops, lectures, and industry collaborations, students develop their individual strengths and build a flexible professional profile, ready to work as visual designers, art directors, brand identity designers, type designers, UX/UI designers, or motion graphic designers — in studios, agencies, cultural institutions, or independent practice.
